The Concept
In Waterford, award winning architect Lawrence Sumich has, in conjunction with the owner, designed a house that, because of meticulously thoughtful attention to the ways modern families live their lives, is more than just a sum of its admittedly impressive parts. Instead, as well as being an architectural masterpiece, it offers a blend of seamlessly interconnecting accommodation and uses. The care put into the design allows varying age groups with different life styles to interact, yet not impose upon each other. Thus, its clever use of space provides privacy for the grandparents to retreat to, or space for the teenagers to hang out in. What can be either a state of the art office suite, or a fully equipped entertainment room, is, by the simple expedience of the closing of a sliding door, a multi functional space whose use is governed only by its furnishings. Yet, simultaneously, effortless comfort for the largest of family groups is achieved by simply allowing all the interconnecting spaces to merge into one luxurious family home.
Outside, its proximity to the water, along with its private jetty, pontoon and boat parking area, allow the easiest of access to the open sea, and at the end of a hard day’s fishing, the catch can be processed in the practical wet area outside and cooked under the stars, or inside in the well equipped kitchen in a variety of ways. This is a house not only beautiful and comfortable, but also immensely practical to a wide configuration of users.
