Landscaping
Waterford is as spectacular from the outside as it is from within. The fences are made from galvanised gabion baskets, filled with small well chosen stones from a local Coromandel quarry. This combination produces a visual effect a bit like schist but with more ‘street credibility.’ The gates are manufactured from Kwila, stained to match the colour and repeating the design of the shutters on the building itself. The front driveway is a pleasing and elegant combination of honed concrete slabs inter-planted in a grid pattern with baby mondo grass. This once again echoes and references the grid motif which anchors the interior design. The boat ramp and the driveway to it are made from a washed, exposed aggregate concrete and has a dual use in that it can be used for overflow parking should that be required. The planting is a hardy salt resistant mixture of various structurally significant plants, used to great effect in a design by respected New Zealand landscape designer Suzanne Turley As it matures it will only add further strength and balance to the powerful lines of the house itself.
